Eid al-Fitr in Arabic means “Feast of Breaking the Fast”.

Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims around the world. It marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting and prayer. It begins on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

In 2022, Eid al-Fitr is expected to start on May 2. During this time, Muslims celebrate with family and friends by exchanging gifts, eating special foods, and praying together.

The new UAE Eid al-Fitr COVID-19 protocols suggest that the duration of the prayer and khutba should not exceed 20 minutes. Credential observations are monitored by police, volunteers and imams to prevent crowds.

The UAE Cabinet has approved a decision extending Eid Al Fitr holidays for a week for private sector, starting from Saturday, April 30 until Friday, May 6.

The decision covers all ministries and federal entities in the UAE. Work will resume on Monday, May 9. This means that employees of all ministries and federal entities will enjoy a 9-day long holiday.
